6 Things You Should Never Do to Your Labradoodle

6 Things You Should Never Do to Your LabradoodleAs breeders, we at Agape Labradoodles in Denver know what wonderful dogs they are and how they can be such a great addition to your family, but we think it’s important for you to know what things people do that Labradoodles don’t tolerate well. Here are 6 things you should never do to your Labradoodle.

  1. Yell at Them

Please don’t yell at your dog. Yelling can make your Labradoodle fear you. If you are training your dog, yelling may change your pet’s behavior, but it may not be the positive result you want and actually may make training more difficult.

We recommend trying to stay calm and positive during your dog’s training. We’ve found that Labradoodles respond better to positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement. Instead of yelling, try a noisemaker or a firm command. Of course, try to keep a calm demeanor, because Labradoodles can actually pick up on your emotions.

  1. Rub Their Nose in Messes

Don’t rub their noses in their urine or excrement if they’ve had an accident. This will create a fear that may cause them to relieve themselves in hiding. Dogs don’t have the memory and capacity to connect a past accident and your present anger.

The best way to train your dog not to have accidents in the house is to catch them doing it and give them a command. If your dog has an accident inside, just clean it up so they can’t smell their spot and continue the behavior. When they go to the bathroom outside, that’s the time to praise them.

  1. Leave Them Alone

Labradoodles like to spend a lot of time with their people. Leaving a dog outside all day or alone in the house can make them feel neglected. They cannot go all day without interacting with people. If you have a Labradoodle you know if they get bored, they can be destructive.

  1. Skip Playtime or Walks

Labradoodles love to exercise. They need to be played with and go for walks every day. If you can’t  provide physical activity, we recommend finding someone who can play with your dog. There are many dog walking services and daycare facilities that will provide exercise and socializing.

  1. Let Them Go Untrained

Labradoodles need obedience training. They are smart dogs and can get into trouble if they don’t have the proper training. Your dog will be safer, happier and less destructive if they are trained to follow your commands.

  1. Hug Your Dog

We know you want to share your love for your dog with a hug, but dogs can be frightened by hugs. Dogs may feel like they are being restrained by someone who is bigger and more dominant. Petting and giving praise are better ways to show you love your pet. Sometimes they may not show it, but hugs can cause anxiety, and they may become agitated and snap.

As breeders of Labradoodles at Agape Labradoodles in Denver, we know that dogs can’t always understand people. But as their owners, you need to remember the 6 things you should never do to your Labradoodle, so your dog can feel safe and loved. In return, they will be fun and loyal companions for you and your family.
